,This unit: The Quality of Music: outlines basic music elements and how to impress musical quality on Middle and High School students. The first lesson deals with Musical Elements which are focused upon in Michigan School and Band and Orchestra Association music festivals and solo/ensembles adjudication forms. Tone, Intonation, Rhythm, Technique and Musicality are defined, then demonstrated in future lessons as music excerpts are brought into the classroom and students are challenged to refine their listening skills. These elements are then transferred to student performance with various playing exercises in small and large groups, echoing the teacher's models, and exploration of ensemble sound. Practice strategies for extending the musical elements into future musical experiences and proficiency are also included in detail. Explore the Instructional Planning tab to see the five lesson plans. Each are intended as introductory, and can be expanded into entire units themselves, depending on your classroom. Enjoy!
